I am 28-year survivor of HIV which\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003econtracted through a blood transfusion\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewhile serving in the military in 1983, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efollowing an oral surgery procedure. In\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emy retirement, I have dedicated my time\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eto fishing, engaging in home improvement\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eprojects, and pursuing my long-standing\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epassion for writing songs and poems which I\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehave honed over a period of 35 years. I also\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewould like to dedicate this book to my older\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esister, Alice, who is turning 70 this year.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAs an individual imbued with a strong sense of spirit, I believe that all of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eus possess an innate potential for compassion, albeit to varying degrees.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThrough my poetry, I seek to convey this inherent quality to those who\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emay not be fully aware of it, but who need gentle reminders that they too\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eare capable of empathy. I trust that my literary works will bring peace of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emind and awareness to individuals navigating the stresses of our fast-paced, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eephemeral existence, and provide solace by imbuing hope for a better\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etomorrow, informed by my personal experiences.
