In her introduction to the collection James writes that "this book is the embodiment of my profound appreciation and deep respect for Bob Dylan. Initially, my admiration stemmed primarily from Dylan's music, but as the years went on, and as I began doing research for this project, my admiration encompassed so much more. I've attempted to cluster my inspirations thematically based on the research that I've done and the works that I've read. Not every poem in this collection utters the name Bob Dylan, but I hope each piece evokes his spirit."
