Having taught Social Studies at the Secondary level he decided to write a children's book based on his experiences in the classroom, like the use of smart-phones, ear-buds and headphones in school. In 2018 he received an award for the \"Outstanding Teacher of American History\" from the Corpus Christi chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mr. Gonzales has been known to dress as characters from the past including the \"Civil War\" era. He also has a YouTube channel where he highlights some of these characters.
