by Peggy Poe Stern (Author)
Millie, a twelve-year old girl raised by a single mother dying of cancer, is confronted with trying to keep the bills paid. She is befriended by a Jimbo, an elderly gentleman man who is in a witness protection program. He teaches Millie the necessary skills to survive as a Robin Hood with the understanding that she can only practice those skills during her juvenile years. Together they pull off some harrowing escapades. After high school graduation and her Mother's passing, Jimbo encourages Millie to leave and begin a new life. Millie ends up traveling to south Florida, working in a restaurant, and befriending a pregnant co-worker. Her co-worker sets off a chain of events ending up with Millie responsible for a newly birthed baby girl and traveling back North. Temporarily staying at a boarding house in North Georgia, she meets a man with news of Jimbo's passing and his bequeathing her a mountain farm in Northwestern North Carolina. That's when the rest of the story begins.
