"No." Nervously, I said, "Why do you ask?" "If they do, we will make sure the president of the company hand-delivers it to you." The paternal look on Tony's face is something I will never forget.
The nightly glory failed to satisfy daily living as a Country Western Recording Artist. The results? I ended up in a successful mess as the entertainer buzz faded.
In the year, 1976, the zenith of my success, my position with Consumer Companies of America (CCA) was Sales Director for West Virginia, in Charleston. As my connections to the Mafia grew, I accidentally discovered that they headquartered a large torch operation there. A torch operation comprises professional fire arsonists who start fires for people who want to collect insurance money or have someone whacked by the fire. Over the years, people asked me how I became so involved with the Mafia and how I escaped. I could not answer the questions concisely in a few minutes, so this book attempts to provide the answers.
This story is true. The names were changed or not mentioned to shield anyone from embarrassment.
